"You win some, you lose some, you wreck some." - Dale Earnhardt
An entrepreneur I know seems to have had a rough day yesterday. How can I write about the ups and downs of running your own business without sounding trite? For those of you that aren’t afflicted with this terrible but awesome disease, it’s exactly that. Both the most terrible and the most awesome existence ever.
The terrible is the part we accept in order to get the awesome part. We’re like extreme athletes in that we accept utter destruction as the flipside. Unfortunately for some, if they forget to manage their minds, death can be a reality, be it from stress or as we’ve seen from some, suicide.
I like to tell our CEO’s that 90% of building a company is them learning to manage their own psyche. Find me a successful CEO that doesn’t believe that. I always love a good debate, even when I lose. Especially then because it makes me better.
So take a breather, remember why you do this thing, walk away from the loss or wreck and get back in the driver’s seat. You know that’s where you want to be anyways.
